Queen of Hill stations- Ooty

Friends who like to travel  very often this blog post is just for you. Ooty is a very famous hill station in South India. The place is also known as Udhagamandalam which is the capital of Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu.Nilgiri mountain ranges are older than himalayas. It was a land of tribe Todas.Later it was taken over by british governor John Sullivan.It is situated at an altitude of 2240 meters above the sea level.Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru named it as “Queens of hill stations“.The main attractions of Ooty are Coffee & tea plantations on the sloping hills , teak & chinchona trees,Vegetarian land Hair pin bends and scenic beauty.The second largest city after ooty is Coonoor in Nilgiri district.The famous places to visit and spending time in Ooty are

  • Ooty Lake
  • Doddabetta Peak
  • Pykara Falls
  • Pykara Lake
  • Ooty Botanical Garden
  • Catherene Falls
  • Droog Fort

In Coonoor Lamb’s Rock, Sim’s Park, Dolfin’s Nose are famous view points of side seeing.It was a great experience to go through Nilgiri Mountain Railway from Ooty to Coonoor which takes 1 hr approx.

From Bangalore to Ooty route you will get Muddumalai wildlife sanctuary. You can stay there one night.Then you can start for Ooty. Best time to visit in Ooty is May or June in Summer & September to November in winter.In coonoor the favorite past time would be bird watching and spotting.It is the best place for photography.Special items to bring from there are home made chocolate,eucalyptus Oil,tea, coffee,spices,gourmet cheese handicraft items etc…
